A Crafter + A Dream + A New Year's Resolution = Married in May Designs
I was doing what most people do on December 31st, 2012..pondering what to do for my 2013 resolution! I've always gone for the tradition NY resolutions like exercising, eating right, & keeping my closet organized (which for some reason only stays organized in the month of January). Then it donned on me. I should REALLY stick with my resolution this year. But what to do??? Hmmm... After much thought, I was nowhere. NYE came and went. I was without a resoultion. Then the lightbulb went off! I should open my OWN etsy shop!!! I'm always on etsy.com anyways & I love admiring everyones work. Plus, I love to craft and I'm constantly daydreaming about owning a boutique or designing events. But could I do it? I decided to stop overthinking it & just GO FOR IT!
Getting started was a little scary. I'm a 4th grade teacher & had a 7 month old son. How would I juggle? And then there's the issue of where to start??? I decided to start with my passion - rustic, shabby chic decor. I've always had a thing for burlap. Everything from my own wedding to my own personal home decor fits this mold. Now that I had a vision, I was ready to begin my adventure as an etsy shop owner! I had faith & took the plunge...
Within the first month I KNEW I made the right decision (a bold decision, but the right decision). It has been so rewarding! I've enjoyed working with my clients so much. They are very creative & always come up with wonderful ideas. They make it all worthwhile. It's so rewarding to know you've helped incorporate someone's ideas into a reality. My customers are the added bonus...the cherry on top...to this big dream of mine.
And as for juggling my time, it has worked out perfectly! I find plenty of time to be an effective teacher in the classroom and enjoy every minute of watching my sweet little boy grow up. I have to give a lot of credit to my husband, Kyle, who has been so supportive through this whole process. Life is good!
UPDATE: As of April 2014, I'm a proud momma of 2 precious little ones! We just welcomed our {newest edition} to the family, a sweet baby girl. I'm also very fortunate to have a husband who will take on the task of "holding down the fort"...because I'm also a new stay-at-home mom! Life is an adventure. And I'm enjoying the ride!
